Now, that you’re playing poker, keep a few of your drinks modest. Otherwise, stick to the soda water with a shot flavored syrup and lime. But, if you can handle your drink with confidence, then try a few of these at home:
1. Gin and Tonic
2 oz. gin
5 oz. tonic water
1 lime wedge
By mixing perfect proportions using a good gin, it’s an incredibly smooth drink. Served on the rocks in a highball glass.
2. Martini
2.5 oz. gin
5 oz. dry vermouth
olives or lemon twist
Served in a stemmed martini glass. This all time classic was originally made with gin. Nowadays it is also prepared with vodka in place of gin. Either way you choose, be sure to choose high quality liquor since that’s all you’ll taste.
3. Tequila on Ice
2 oz. tequila
Wedge of lime optional
Need I say more? Make sure it’s high quality tequila for added enjoyment. Serve in a rock glass.
4. Manhattan
1 oz. sweet vermouth
1-4 oz. whiskey (depending on how sweet you like it)
Dash of Angostura bitters
Traditionally served in a martini glass can also be served on the rocks in a rocks glass.
5. Rusty Nail
¾ oz. scotch
¼ oz. Drambuie
Usually served on the rocks in an old fashioned glass or can also be served straight up in a martini glass. Garnish with a twist.
6. Gibson
1 oz. dry vermouth
2-3 oz. gin
cocktail onion
Similar to a gin martini with the slight difference of onion over olive. Served in a martini glass. Anyone whose drink is garnished with a pickled onion is a man in my book.
7. Poker Face
1 1/2 oz tequila
1/2 oz Cointreau orange liqueur
4 oz pineapple juice
Served in a highball glass. Even though with online poker chances are no one can see you, you still got to have your poker face.
8. B&B
1 oz. Bénédictine
1 oz. brandy
Served straight in a snifter. Any drink in a snifter is immediate sophistication.
