The most shadowy figure in poker has finally been unmasked.
Isildur1, the mysterious online player who appeared from nowhere last year to tear into the biggest names in poker, taking the great Tom Dwan for $5m in the process, has finally been revealed as Viktor Blom, a 22-year-old Swede.
Viktor Blom walked out to the poker world’s media as the new member of Team PokerStars Pro at the recent Caribbean Poker Adventure in the Bahamas, before beating PCA Champion Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier out of over $20,000 in a live heads-up match.
At his height, Isildur1 was taking on Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius all at once across eight heads-up high stakes tables, before losing everything and disappearing back into the void. It is thought Blom kept his identity secret to avoid paying tax in his native Sweden.
Blom claimed in an interview that money is meaningless to him and that he plays because he loves the game. He also revealed that he believes himself to be the best heads-up no limit player in the world and that, despite his infamous Isildur1 moniker, he is not a huge fan of Lord of the Rings.
